The Modern Media and Communications program uses project-based learning and collaboration to help students build proficiency in a wide range of communication and media skills.

The program offers exciting electives related to today's careers and ties in with core classes in history, English, science, and math.

The Palms Modern Media and Communications Magnet is the only Media and Communications Magnet School on the west side of Los Angeles, and one of only four for grades 6-8 within LAUSD.

Each student will maintain a blog that is published and shared with peers.

As a final culminating project, students will assemble and publish their best blogs into an online and printed book.

7th Grade Curriculum

presentionStudents will use technology to create presentations of topics of their choice, and will practice public speaking.

The culminating project will be the creation of a TED Talk type presentation, which will help students develop the academic skills of research, time management, organization, speech writing, and technology.

A school-wide assembly called Palms Talks will follow, during which students will present their research findings and deliver their commentary using a motivational style.

8th Grade Curriculum

making a filmStudents will make films that express the idea "Be the Change You Want to See in the World" (Ghandi).

They will pick a topic where they feel they can contribute to making the world a better place.

They will research this topic, write the screenplay, practice pre-production planning, experience hands-on production, and add sound, music, and titles in post-production.

The films will be presented at an assembly called the Palms Film Festival.
